St. George’s Day, April 23, is celebrated in several nations of whom Saint George is the patron saint, including Georgia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Catalonia and England. For England St. George’s Day also marks its National Day, in much the same way July 4th does for the United States though it tends to be a low-key affair with little or no fireworks. April 23 is traditionally accepted as the date of Saint George’s death in 303.
