Google Gears, technologia umożliwiająca działanie sieciowych aplikacji w trybie offline, obecnie pozwala również pisać bloga bez konieczności stałego połączenia z internetem. Usługa przenosi sieciowy program Blogger, do trybu offline.


Nie oznacza to skonstruowania pełnej wersji Bloggera bez obsługi sieci. Program tworzy Blog.gears, klienta, który umożliwia obsługę Bloggera w wersji offline. Dzięki temu można pisać i edytować posty. Nowy projekt może być użyteczny, gdy internauta nie posiada stałego łącza internetowego, a chciałby mimo to zarządzać swoim blogiem i dzięki temu łatwiej aktualizować go.

„Piszę sporą liczbę postów i robię to również będąc offline. Często wykorzystywałem w tym celu zwykły edytor tekstu, więc wprowadzenie usługi przenoszącej edytor bloga poza sieć jest znacznym ułatwieniem”, pisze Dion Almaer, z zespołu odpowiedzialnego za rozwój Google Gears.

Kolejną z usług przeniesionych do trybu offline dzięki Google Gears, ma być Gmail.
